Whangamomona
Whangamomona was forced to change province, from Taranaki to Whanganui. Dissatisfied with the decision they unilaterally decided to declare themselves the Independent Republic of Whangamomona, as an independent country inside New Zealand. When you arrive to the village you find a sign that says “Welcome to New Zealand”. The celebration of the event is held every 4 years.

P.D. Hongi is the Maori kiss. It involves touching the forehead and nose at the same time and keep it for few seconds “breathing and feeling” to the other person. Usually they also shake their hands at the same time.

In special ceremonies (Powhiri) The Hongi can last a few seconds, especially to show reverence or a great affection. However, it is easy to see people using hongi on the street or supermarket in areas with Maori populations.
